Oscars edition: Glamour recap

The 84th Annual Academy Awards continued to be Hollywood's most prestigious and glamorous event. For some, the red carpet is almost more exciting than the actual purpose of the event: to recognize the artistry of film along with its numerous components. Everyone wants to know what the stars are wearing to this esteemed function! Over the years, the Oscars have earned the reputation of the most fashionable event - and this year was no different. The dresses were simply breathtaking, and the men were looking rather sharp as well!

Here is a short peek at my personal favorite and least favorite looks from the 2012 Oscars.

TOP!

Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen.

This was probably my favorite dress of the night, although there were many other that I loved as well. Jessica is looking ravishing in this McQueen gown!  The gold detail brings an opulent vibe to the gown, while the silhouette is very feminine and soft.
Can't get enough of this look! It is simply stunning!

TOP!

Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace.

As always, the Queen of the red carpet managed to look aaah-mazing! This gown gives an entirely new meaning to the term "little black dress".  No wonder #AngelinasLeg was a trending topic on twitter. The simplicity of the gown is so refreshing and not to mention, sexy!
Yeah,  Ms. Jolie-Pitt still got it!

TOP!

Mila Jovovici in Elie Saab Couture.

Talk about Old Hollywood Glamour! This gown is so sophisticated, and the shimmering detail is impeccable. I'm really loving the one-shoulder look, it completes the entire ensemble.

TOP!

Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli Couture.

I would've never thought that I could love a fuchsia gown so much! The high neckline complimented by the big statement bow is definitely one of a kind!  Emma Stone could not have looked more put together - she sure cleans up good!

TOP!
Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad.

All I could think of when I saw J.Lo was "Greek Goddess". That pattern does wonders for her curves (and assets). Simply stunning!

(C'mmon, am I the only one that can see Calliope from Disney's Hercules here??)

TOP!

Cameron Diaz in Gucci Premier.

Another breathtaking gown - Cameron Diaz was glowing in this elegant Gucci Premier design! The vanilla colored silk compliments her skin light complexion and goes great with her signature blonde locks. A big bonus for me was the way in which the gown moved. The light ruffles flowed effortlessly, almost as if Cameron was floating.

FLOP!

Wendi McLendon-Covey in Simin Haute Couture.

Don't get me wrong, it is a very pretty gown. It had very soft details and the shade is quite feminine. Personally though, it seems to scream "prom". Plus, I can't say that I'm the biggest fan of a full tulle bottom - it's a bit of a no no for me.

FLOP!

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford.

Okay, I get that capes are a hot new trend this season but I simply don't understand why you would wear one on the red carpet. It's a bit off-looking and it takes away from the elegance of the gown. Although, I must admit that it is THE most sharply executed cape I have ever seen. I'm so glad she took it off while on stage. She looked so much more crisp without it!

FLOP!

Busy Phillips in Dolce and Gabbana.

Aaaand the contender for the "worst dresses" this year goes to Busy. The entire ensemble is confusing me. It looks like there was too much going on and she could not decide on what to wear. Perhaps if she chose to go with a royal blue satin heel instead of that hot pink, the look may be less distracting. Sorry, but not a fan.

A night out dancing

Last night was the first time in quite a while that I went out to a club. Exams and papers have been taking up every single moment of my "spare" time and the stress has been slowly building up. I figured I ought to give myself a little break and have some fun and let lose. We decided to go to Post Modern, a cute little dance bar in historic Gastown. The music was great and the overall atmosphere was very enjoyable.

Despite the freezing weather, I was determined to wear a cute wrap skirt. I may be regretting this decision as I am lying in bed sick today...

[Top: Sirens, Skirt: Dynamite]

I`m loving the pattern of the skirt and the way in which it makes the body look slimmer. The outfit was super comfy and perfect for dancing!

[Satchel: Coach, Pumps: Ardene]

The accessories were very minimal and stuck to the nude tones. My Coach bag is my absolute all-time favorite item. I wear it on an almost daily basis. It can be paired with any outfit and I love that it fits my essentials such as my wallet, keys, phone and camera. For the first time in a long time, I can proudly say that my feet did not kill me after a long night of dancing. These nude pumps are so comfortable!

What did you do this weekend?

Party rocking with LMFAO

This past Thursday was the party of the month. LMFAO was in town and I wasn't about to miss them this time! I was fortunate enough to be able to get my hands on floor tickets and we made it unbelievably close to the stage in the moshpit. So close, in fact, that we got drenched by the champagne showers!

Far East Movement opened the show along with Natalia Kills. Red Foo was the only one present at the show, but let's be honest - we all know thathe's the life of the party!

[Shirt: Sirens, Leggings: Joseph Ribkoff, Belt: H&M, Jacket: DIY, Satchel: Coach, Boots: Spring]

For the concert, I finally broke out my Joseph Ribkoff leggings and I also wore a custom made  DIY shufflebot jacket. My brother actually wore the same jacket on Halloween as well as the matching pants and the flashing helmet to complete the costume. And yes, the jacket is spray painted gold - but how cool does it look?! All in all, an amazing evening and an even better party. Red Foo sure rocked Vancouver! Sky Blu please get your wiggle back on asap!

Beauty talk: Coastal Scents 88 Warm Palette

The Coastal Scents 88 Warm Palette is one of the latest additions to my make-up collection. I've only recently started  to experiment with different brands and products and I thought this palette would allow me to try out a variety of different looks. Was I ever right! To be completely honest, I think it is one of my best purchases yet! Initially, I was drawn to the natural beige-ish shades, thinking that they would be excellent for everyday use and for work as well. It was only after I had received my palette that I realized how versatile it really is!

The wide range of warm colors are perfect for any look. I also love how pigmented all of the shadows are and they can be blended very easily! Here are a few looks that I created using shadows only from this palette. These are just a few of many options you can create with this palette that aren't necessarily the traditional neutral brown eye looks.

- Dramatic -
Smokey eye and red bold lips

- Romantic -
Pink and mauve shadows, paired with neutral lips

- "I'm not wearing make-up" -
Vanilla and taupe shadows, paired with soft pink lips

- Shimmering Gold -
Gold, bronze and brown shadows, paired with soft pink lips

What is your signature make-up look?

Business Casual Sundays

[Shirt: Sirens, Blazer: Aritzia, Jeans: PacSun, Boots: Seattle boutique]

Ugh, it's midterm time again! This is what I wore for a study session on campus. Quick confession: I am obsessed with blazers! I love the way in which they can easily dress up any outfit and make it look more professional and put together. Blazers are must-haves item for any individual.

The boots were an impulse buy - I saw them at a little boutique during my latest trip to Seattle and I had to have them! The detail is so unique from any other boots that I have seen! It seems that riding boots are becoming more and more popular this season, and I can't say that I'm surprised. They are so versatile and can be paired with virtually any outfit.
Hope you all had a great weekend!

Seasonal changes

The first thing I saw this morning as I was waking up were the warm rays of the sun, shining through my blinds. Today was a truly gorgeous day and I was immediately inspired by the transition from winter into spring. Goodbye rainy Vancouver days and heeelloooo sunshine (I hope)!
[Shirt: Guess, Jeans: Urban Planet, Vest: Dynamite, Flats: Spring, Belt: H&M]

My outfit today definitely reflected this fusion. The faux fur vest brings a winter-y feel, while my little flats are a perfect representation of the spring ambiance. I paired them both with my favorite pair of red jeans and a black top - loving the complete look!

What is that one item that you are just dying to have in your spring wardrobe?
